Reviews and Comments:

From rec.arts.misc.comics.strips:
"If there is any justice in the universe, you'll be syndicated soon."
"There aren't many webcomics I read--a few. River and the Weird Kid is a treasure, though."

"After reading it a few days, I'm hooked on it. It's something I wish I could see in newspapers. What are your intentions with the comic strip? Will it be syndicated or published in books?" (Curious Fan)

"I wanted to say how much I really like this comic strip. The reason being is because I was a 'weird kid' too and felt like an outsider. It would have been nice to possibly have a raccoon or some kind of 'friend' to try and help my self esteem back then, but i still had my positive moments which I'm glad Roger has. I will contribute to one of your causes... You have done a wonderful job with the strip and hope it continues. Thank you and best wishes to you." (Dave)

From webcomics.com:
"Wow! Let me be the first to welcome you to webcomics.com! I was very intrigued by your cartoon so I went to your site and read through all of your strips. Your style is a FANTASTIC combination of delightfully unique writing and a great visual style. I'll keep watching, and I highly suggest that anyone else here who hasn't seen "River and the Weird Kid" should check it out NOW! Great stuff!"

"It is refreshing in this time of stress and tribulation, to find a comic strip that is filled with hope and love laced with gentle sarcastic humor.
Knowing now that your son's name is River....puts a different slant on who the "weird kid" is!!! Your depiction of your coonie riding on the back of the bike brought to mind. Would love to see your work publicized in every newspaper!" (midnytewalker)

"I think River and the Weird Kid is great. I tear up whenever I look at the Christmas comic. I an over-aged Weird Kid who loves raccoons. I go out to sit with them every night, and I make note of who shows up and who doesn't. I have real bonds with some of them, and they trust me. Weird Kid worried that he might lose River's love, just like a discarded toy; I worry each night about the raccoons who don't show up, until the next time they visit. "My miracle sleeps in deep fur at midnight" - that's what my visitors are - miracles who have made my life richer. Now, of course, in real life, my raccoons show up in numbers! 17 in my view tonight. And, I'd never try hugging a raccoon ... but I would if they'd let me! Oh well, you're entitled to artistic license. Bravo for River and The Weird Kid!" (email)

"I just wanted to write to you and say that I like your comic strip better than Calvin and Hobbes. I laugh more at your strip, and I like the art better. I also can tell it's more based on real things, so I can relate to it even more." (email)

"just wanted to let you know I LOVE your web site........You are even more talented than I had imagined and I love how you inspire!!! I have e mailed a few of my friends to get onto you website. I know they will enjoy it as much as I did. I will come back again and again."

"I'm in awe at the talent you have. Are you saying the strip somewhat portrays your childhood? Did you have a raccoon as a pet or just near them in a natural setting? Keep up the wonderful job here!!" (Gena)

"Hi, my name is Mike, and I happened across your page tonight while looking for stuff to put on my own web page as links, when I get it finished. I really enjoyed your comics, and the messages in them. This was a wonderful surprise, and I wholeheartedly enjoyed your work. I can relate to the little boy, and his raccoon friend."

"I have been here surfing each of your pages....reading all of your comics...out loud to my husband who loves them too! I can tell that you have MUCH raccoon experience!!! For you to have been trusted enuff by a coon to have it lay on its back and allow you to tickle it shows me just what type of a person you are. You are one of the gentle spirits that are few and far between in this phase of life! Hopefully in the next phase....you won't be such a rare creature! I also do beadwork...and yours is breath taking!!! But...the photo of you holding your infant son and kissing his hand brought tears to my eyes. Very Special!!! Thank you for sharing it with us!" (Dianna)

"My adopted son loves your comic. He has the "I'm no longer afraid" as his wallpaper now (oh - and I like it too.)" (Kindren)

"Hey, Weird Kid, I looked at your strip (actually it was some time ago), and thought it was pretty damned good--changed my opinion of online strips, to be honest. So, whatever you do, don't take the rejection(s) hard, mate. It was pretty solid work, and if they don't throw a gig your way, maybe someone else will." -Michael T, rec.arts.comics.strips 2/1/02

"Just wanted to let you know that the poem (with its accompanying art) featured right now on the main page is very affecting and made me "well up" when I read it. Makes me want to leave work right now and go hug my cats. Oh well, one more hour. Your stuff is great and getting stronger every time I read it. Keep it up!" (Ronniecat)
